Really?

When I looked at Max's hind feet last night, it smelled funny and I dug out some black-ish stuff. I texted my trainer and she said the farrier will be out and look at it today.

Well..turns out he has thrush on both hind feet....   Sigh.... I mean...can we get a break already? And who knows what's going on in his front feet under those pads....

Luckily he's not lame from it and that it's treatable. He left some medication for me to apply every other day.

I also bought a thing of Thrush Buster and No Thrush for maintenance to help prevent this from happening again!

Aaaahh...Just had to rant a little!

  2. We battle it in the winters here too. On a funny side note, one of mine has it and while the farrier was there my husband was like "Pheww, what's that smell?". Farrier replied "Feet!". When we got home my guy was super worried about where I left my boots - turns out since his feet weren't stinky he thought for sure it had to be mine lol. Never occurred to him the farrier meant my horses' feet. Sounds like you've got a good plan :)

  3. Curious about the No Thrush, I have never tried that one, how effective did you find it? Once spring comes and all of our snow creates mud everywhere I will be dealing with thrush too :-(

    1. I haven't used it yet so unfortunately I have no personal feedback on it yet. The farrier put Max on Tomorrow Dry Cow to cure the thrush. He suggested I apply thrush buster twice a week in winter and three items a week in summer as a preventative. I did ask about No Thrush and he said it will work if it can reach the crevices but he prefers the liquid type because it can get everywhere. Hope this info helps. Sounds like you'll be okay since you are expecting it and can prevent it!
