Ouch!

I've contemplated posting this video because I'm not sure if the world wants to see me flung to the ground by my pony. What am I saying..OF COURSE the world wants to see it!

By world..I mean..you three readers ^.^ Who I am very grateful for! If you don't mind sharing your worst fall story with me, I'd love to hear it.

Here is mine, to date!

After my poor husband panicked for a bit, he then ran over only to say "Are you okay? I got that on video!"  Haha!

  1. Oh man I am so glad you are okay! As far as unscheduled dismounts, my worst one was when I was doing a rescue race with my friend and on the race home, my horse started wildly bucking. I clearly remember reaching behind me with one arm to try to hold onto my friend as her head kept popping over mine (she was riding behind me and my horse's bucks were quite violent) Next thing I knew, she was flying over my head and dragging me head-first to the ground with her. Luckily, we were much younger and bounced quite well. And we didn't fall off until we passed the finish line so no disqualification...:D

    1. Oh man! Thank goodness for childhood bounciness! Still..sounds a little bit horrifying to me. The fact that you guys were okay AND not disqualified must have been quite a triumphant feeling!

  2. oh no! that looks super painful! like Max practically evaporated out from under you :( glad you're ok! i hate those kind of falls. if the front end goes down or they drop a shoulder like that i'm almost always a goner...

my most painful fall was taking much too long of a spot to a big oxer and my saddle slipped. the horse landed poorly (some said he bucked but i think he was just unbalanced) and i slid off with the saddle - except my foot got stuck and i was dragged a step or two before my boot popped off. luckily it was just a minor concussion and a mildly tweaked knee and i was back at it in no time...

    1. That is one of my greatest fears in this sport - being dragged by the stirrups! I'm so glad it turned out the way it did with nothing too major. Still..gives me a new perspective on checking that girth more often than not!

    1. Almost impossible in my case, even with my heavy butt. What a great way to feel skinny, when an animal can throw me with ease! haha

  4. Glad to hear you're ok as well. I'm a newer reader but Max is super cute!!

My worst fall was several years ago. I hopped on a lesson horse who was being a bit fresh. I had ridden him before and he was just sort of throwing a tantrum so I didn't think it'd be a big deal. I was totally thinking "I got this" in my head. Got on, horse kept trying to run through your leg/hand and do a flying lead change 3/4 of the way through at the same spot, to go towards the gate of the indoor. We got several circles that were quite fresh (much hopping, much head tossing, some flying sideways) but then he did it well a few times. I was just letting him onto a bigger circle to be done and when we went towards the gate, he LOST HIS BRAIN. Cue farting, leaping, bucking, the whole thing. Turns out, I did not in fact "have it." I almost was ok but at the last minute, I got a bit ahead and he dropped his shoulder and spun. I was flying through the air AT THE GATE of the indoor. I thought for sure I was going to go over it and land on the concrete on the other side. I remember thinking "holy shit, I'm definitely going to break some bones here..." Luckily, I landed on top of the gate, not over it. My neck, shoulder and thigh had a bruise for probably a month though. Needless to say, the child did not get back on aforementioned horse, my boss did and gave him one heck of a come to jesus moment... and he was put into training rides with my boss and I for a solid two weeks of WORK before we used him for lessons again. ;)

    1. Nice to meet you! Wow that sounds like one crazy ride! I'm glad you didn't fly over the gate and get worse injuries, but the thought alone in that split second must have been terrifying. Yeah sometimes they need that bit of touch-base disciplining! I'm definitely going to be lunging him before I ride for the next few sessions..if anything to see if it could be discomfort thing. (He was only really THIS spooky when he was going through discomfort from Lyme over winter). Or..he could have been feeling overly cheeky that day. Who knows!

    2. I can't tell you how terrified I was when I thought I was going to land on that concrete... Oh man. I'm surprised I didn't pee myself! LOL

Ugh! LYME! I had lyme myself a few years ago (although, there's mixed feelings in the science world on if it ever really goes away....?) and my horse has had this on and off lameness thing for about two weeks so lyme is a suspect. I'm hoping he was just sore due to our increased workload or maybe playing too hard in the field. The ticks are so bad in my area this year. Lyme is such a weird disease too. Symptoms can be just about anything. So frustrating.... Hopefully Max gets better soon!
